Experience the Thrill of Motor Racing with One Fast Move, Now Streaming on Prime Video!
One Fast Move is a great movie to watch for motorcycle enthusiasts. It also has wider appeal because it digs into the relationships between sons and fathers. The relationship between Wes and his father Dean plays out against the backdrop of motorcycle racing.
Wes Neal goes looking for his father
Wes Neal was kicked out of the military after taking part in an illegal street race on his motorcycle and causing a crash that injured some officers. He spends six months in jail and is released back into civilian life. Wes has heard his estranged father is down south racing motorcycles. His dream is to become a professional motorcycle racer, so he goes to find his father.
Wes doesn’t know his father, Dean, as he left before Wes was born. At first, Dean is not really interested in getting to know his son when they finally meet. Eventually, he agrees to take him under his wing and train him to race.
Wes says to Dean that the faster he goes, the calmer he feels. Dean replies that then he just needs to keep going faster. Speed is what makes watching motorsports so exciting, and you can legally bet now on almost all kinds of sports in the U.S.
Wes and Dean
After Wes wins his first race, his father is proud to claim him as his son. He pushes Wes to aim high, already thinking about the lucrative contracts he could get in professional racing.
Wes finds out that Dean didn’t want to ‘throw his life away’ raising a child, which is why he abandoned his wife and son to pursue racing. He prefers casual sex rather than pursuing meaningful relationships. While teaching Wes the skills he needs on the race track, the life advice he gives him is self-destructive. Dean now spends most of his time drinking at a stripper club.
Dean keeps pushing Wes, and during the next race, Wes is run off the track intentionally by his closest competitor, Cody. He just misses out on the trophy. Motor racing stories like this are very common in this industry.
Wes and Abel
Abel, a motorcycle shop owner and mechanic, becomes a mentor to Wes. He gives him a job and eventually a place to stay. Abel used to race when he was younger and was Dean’s trainer at one stage. He now sponsors motorcycle racers. His advice to Wes is to hold on to the things in life that are worthwhile. Abel misses his wife Angie, whom he lost to a car accident and regrets chasing glory on the track instead of having a family. When Dean and Wes get into a fight with Cody, Abel decides to drop them as they are giving his shop a bad image.
When looking at the F1 current standings, it is no surprise to see an amazing driver like Max Verstappen in the first place. There are sacrifices drivers like him must make to get to the top. Hopefully, motorcycle racers will be able to find a balance and still have a family life.
Wes and Camila
Wes meets Camila, who works at a local diner. He falls for her and initially, she hides the fact that she has a young son. When Wes finds out, he treats the boy with kindness. He doesn’t want to make the same mistakes his father made.
Dean creates problems in the relationship. He doesn’t want Wes to become a family man and miss out on a chance of fame and money. He tells Camila about Wes being in prison and when she sees him in a physical fight with Cody, she decides he isn’t safe for her son to be around.
The MWRA National Finals
At the MWRA National Finals Race, Wes and his father both compete. Wes rides a bike gifted to him by Abel and wins the race. Dean suffers a minor injury and as soon as Wes crosses the finish line, he goes back to check on his father. Camila also attends the race and realizes she loves Wes, so they get back together.
